Come from Away review — the 9/11 musical moves from Broadway to London Phoenix Theatre

Come from Away is a musical with book, music and lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein. It is set in the week following the September 11 attacks and tells the true story of what transpired when 38 planes were ordered to land unexpectedly in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada as part of Operation Yellow Ribbon. The characters in the musical are based on (and in most cases share the names of) real Gander residents as well as some of the 7,000 stranded travellers they housed and fed.

World Privilege Plus sent lucky winner Maddy Walsh from Hearst Magazine 2 tickets to see the show and here is what she had to say “Come From Away shines a light on some of the kindness and empathy shown in wake of 9/11, without dwelling on the darkness. It takes a real and humorous look at life in Gander, Canada, the characters will make you laugh and the songs will be stuck in your head for the rest of the evening!”
